UCAM participates in the 5,000 blood donations challenge
On the occasion of the Healthy Universities Day, the Catholic University has promoted a hemodonation in which students and workers have participated during the entire morning.
For the second consecutive year, students and staff of the University have donated their blood throughout the morning, in an activity that belongs to the campaign of the #RETO5MIL, which aims to reach 5,000 donations among all the participating universities and to help the blood banks of the hospitals.
Carmen Lucas Abellán, academic secretary of the degrees of the field of nutrition, stated that “the fact of belonging to the Healthy Universities Networks commits us to carry out strategies throughout the entire year so that the entire university community may become fully aware of the importance of health and sustainability”.
For its part, Juan José Ferrer, nurse at the Regional Hemodonation Centre, declared that “we have a demand for around 300 bags a day; therefore, the teams are always in the street, from Monday to Friday, and on some holidays, during the morning and the afternoon. Today we are at the UCAM only in the morning, in order to be present at the rest of universities of the Spanish Network of Healthy Universities. Furthermore, the health professional explains that the Regional Hemodonation Centre is open every day so that anyone can donate blood.
The UCAM is a member of this network since 2016; the network is composed by universities from all over Spain, committed to the promotion of health in the university environment.
