It is situated as the 17th of the Spanish universities with the most students that complete their chosen degree thanks to the educational model of reduced groups, tutorisation and practical formation

The practical formation and reduced groups are the two fundamentals behind UCAM’s exit

The U-Ranking 2019 from the Valencian Institute of Economic Investigations and Foundation BBVA (link in Spanish) put UCAM in the twenty spanish universities with the lowest abandonment rate, situated at the 17th place. Only 12,9% UCAM students leave the university system, and 20,9% don’t complete their started degree.

The national medium of abandonment is at 33,3%. Therefore, UCAM is almost thirteen percentages lower than the medium with almost 80% of students who finalize their degrees they started, and more than 87% who remain in the university system. This fact is also reflected at regional level, as the University of Murcia has an abandonment rate of 27,6%, and Polytechnic University of Cartagena has an abandonment rate of 34,5%. The ranking is based on the data from students who started their university studies in the 2012-13 academic year.

Manuel Ruiz, Vice-rectorate of Academic Ordnance and Quality from the Catholic University, values this data in a positive way and thinks that it’s thanks to “correct application of the internal system that guarantees quality in the education processes, which impacts greatly in the excellent results of learning in all of our degrees”. Furthermore, “these results reveal the methodologies used by our university, where we give value to having reduced groups, tutorization services at academic and personal levels, and an updated formation and practice that achieves that the student gets the skills and competences necessary to integrate in the professional world with success”.

Another important point for Manuel Ruiz is “the orientation offered to the student in the admissions process, and during the development of their studies, as it is important already at the moment when they choose their career that they are aware of the career opportunities, the study methodology and basic knowledge that they have to have to start a degree according to their vocation and interests”. When the control and evaluation that the university has on this system is added, these are some of the reasons behind the results “the design of the different degrees offered at UCAM and their theoretical-practical contents that make that the student will be interested in the development of their studies, achieving that they complete in the planned time, giving this result of lower abandonment rate than the national medium”.
