UCAM, more international than ever
José Luis Mendoza, president of the Universidad Católica, welcomed the international students, which are over 5,000 across its different campuses this academic year, setting a new record for the institution in its twenty-five years of history
The BeSoccer La Condomina Stadium hosted the UCAM International Welcome, which was attended by 1,300 new students of the more than two thousand that are currently studying at the Murcia and Cartagena campuses. In total, more than 5,000 students, from 102 countries and who speak 70 different languages, have enrolled at the Universidad Católica de Murcia this academic year, both across the campuses in Spain and those in different parts of the world. This is an all-time high for this educational institution in its twenty-five years of history.
José Luis Mendoza, president of UCAM, presided over the International Welcome to these students and wished them to enjoy the experience of studying far from their countries at a university with an international vocation such as the Universidad Católica de Murcia. "This is an enormous blessing for our university and above all for the Region; having so many international students creates enormous wealth, which in turn means the name of Murcia will be known all over the world", said José Luis Mendoza.
The president of the Universidad Católica stressed that "abroad we are known for the quality of our teaching, for our excellence in research and for sports, which has put Murcia on the map".
The event, which was attended by academic authorities and members of the University's Governing Council, was also attended by Pablo Blesa, Vice-Rector of International Relations and Communication, who stressed that "we are extremely proud, and at the same time aware that it is a great responsibility, to welcome these international students, as we have promised them that Murcia and UCAM will be their home and that they will receive high-quality education that will allow them to launch their professional careers".
The enormous growth of UCAM in the number of foreign students from other countries represents widespread international recognition of the quality of the University's education and the services it offers to this particular student body. It also represents the huge effort on behalf of the University, which has been able to adapt to meet the needs of its foreign students, who have enriched the life of the Cartagena and Murcia campuses by transforming them into a melting pot of nationalities, languages and cultures from which the national students also benefit.
On the other hand, as a magnet for young people from all over the world, the Universidad Católica de Murcia is one of the Region's driving forces, creating economic activity thanks to the presence of these students during the course as well as an important international projection for the city and the whole province. These students, who are usually visited by their families during the course, share their experiences in Spain as well as in the Region of Murcia when they return to their home countries.
