UCAM to collaborate with the Diocese of Carúpano in the training of Venezuelan people
María Dolores García, UCAM President, and Monsignor Jaime José Villarroel, Bishop of the Diocese of Carúpano (Venezuela), have signed a Cooperation Agreement in Los Jerónimos Campus after several years of relationship between both institutions. The aim is to promote the professional and pastoral development of seminarians, priests, and lay people in Venezuela.
Monsignor Jaime José Villarroel visited UCAM to formalize this agreement, where he highlighted the importance of training in fields such as theology, philosophy, and diverse professional disciplines. ‘In 2018, we started conversations with José Luis Mendoza, UCAM founder, for setting up a training agreement in Venezuela, and last year, a university delegation came to our country. After some meetings with the Venezuelan Bishop Conference and the Department of Education, we have formed this alliance,’ explained the bishop.
Currently, two young people from the Diocese of Carúpano study Psychology at UCAM online, with the commitment to apply their knowledge in the pastoral field. Likewise, three people have completed their training in Familiar Pastoral, and there are plans to expand the program to answer the increasing necessity of training in Venezuela.
Monsignor Villarroel explained: ‘Our country is going through a deep crisis, and we think that, allied with UCAM, we can strengthen professional education and education in Christians Values.’ María Dolores García Mascarell has emphasized the University commitment with education and international cooperation. With this initiative, UCAM reaffirms its service vocation and its dedication to comprehensive education, contributing to the social and spiritual development in Venezuela.
