UCAM and Fundación La Caixa will reinsert women in vulnerable situations

UCAM Universidad Católica de Murcia, on the initiative of its president José Luis Mendoza, has created the UCAM Senior classroom, aimed at the unemployed over 45 years of age. As a first step, these two entities will offer training activities and employment to 25 women, with the collaboration and social commitment of several companies in the Region of Murcia.

The first recipients of this social initiative, promoted by Fundación La Caixa, Caixabank and UCAM, will be 25 women from the associations Jesús Abandonado, Paréntesis, Cepaim, Columbares, Cáritas, Fundown and Secretariado Gitano, among others. These are people at risk of social exclusion, who live in marginalised situations, who have a disability or who come from penitentiary institutions, to whom the University will provide training and Fundación La Caixa will offer its experience in labour insertion through the ‘Incorpora’ programme.

This initiative has been endorsed in an agreement signed at UCAM by the president of the Catholic University, José Luis Mendoza, and the territorial director of Caixabank in Murcia and Eastern Andalusia, Juan Ignacio Zafra, who has indicated that it is the bank, through the Foundation’s decentralised budget, “that makes the contribution and that contacts the companies in Murcia, which have already shown their interest in offering work to people from these groups”. For the Director of Institutional Relations at UCAM, José Luis Mendoza García, this is an initiative that responds to the values of UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia and its social commitment, as “it has to act as a vehicle with society to reach those who need it”. The director of the International Chair of Social Responsibility at UCAM, Víctor Meseguer, has specified that the project “aims to make companies in the region aware of the need to provide employment to people at risk of exclusion, and of the importance of their collaboration and involvement in the integration process”.

Against the digital divide

Fundación La Caixa has also renewed its agreement with the UCAM Murcia Football Club. Both entities are working together on various corporate social responsibility projects, including the fight against children’s digital divide, especially following the situation caused by the pandemic. In recent weeks, UCAM Murcia and its business club donated tablets for children who are in a particularly vulnerable situation. These donations are in addition to other contributions and donations received.
