The UCAM Student Care service is designed to support international students throughout their university experience, offering assistance in a wide range of matters related to their stay in Spain. Every year, this service helps more than 3,000 international students, handling more than 7,000 appointment
requests. The goal is to provide guidance on the administrative procedures essential to comply with the legal requirements in Spain and ensuring their social
and academic integration.

The main duties of the Service include support with official recognition of programmes, registration with the local authorities and obtaining important documents such as the Foreigner's Identification Number (NIE) and Foreigner's Identification Card (TIE), as well as visa renewals.

The team also helps students complete the necessary paperwork to do internships in Spain, such as obtaining the Certificate of No Sexual Offence Convictions. In addition, emotional and academic guidance is provided, helping students to overcome any difficulties during their process of adaptation to university life.

Estefanni Calderón, a student of the Bachelor's Degree in Audiovisual Communication and Peruvian native, said: ‘The support of UCAM Student Care was my first link to the university. They have helped me a lot from afar, providing a sense of closeness and trust.’

Accommodation solutions

One of the key challenges for international students is finding suitable accommodation. UCAM Student Care offers personalised advice, providing information on residences and rental properties close to campus to ensure a safe and comfortable place to stay. We have agreements with several residences in Cartagena and Murcia, and we work together with students to find what best suits their needs,’ said Adrián Salazar. This year, a new residence hall with more than 400 places will open in Murcia, expanding the available options. For Rand Othman, a psychology student from Jordan, the service has been a game changer: ‘Their support has been the key to finding suitable accommodation, they guided me and facilitated the whole process.’

Integration through cultural activities

UCAM Student Care facilitates the social and cultural integration of international students organising activities such as tourist visits, cultural events and information services such as Agenda Ñ, which keeps students up to date with events in the city. They also have an international podcast and the ‘Going Connect’ app, which allows students to connect before they arrive and facilitates the creation of groups with common interests, or the Buddy Program, where first-year students connect with more experienced students.

Ana Belén Martínez, Content Manager in International Marketing, emphasises that it is not only essential that international students adapt academically, but that they can also find a place where they can grow as individuals.

Beyond the paperwork and academic challenges, the experience of being an international student at UCAM becomes a journey of personal growth so that they not only find a university, but a community willing to accompany them every step of the way.
