From today until Saturday, the Campus de Los Jerónimos is the venue of the XVIII International Congress of the Spanish Society of Sports Medicine (SEMED), which brings together professionals from the field of health and sports. The conference will deal with current issues, medical advances and new developments on subjects ranging from doping, hydration, high-temperature training, biomechanics and cardiology, nutrition, tendon injury therapies and the link between COVID19 and sports.

Pedro Manonelles, president of the congress and of SEMED, highlighted the importance of the work between professionals and institutions to exchange experiences and knowledge, in order to respond to the problems of society: "The collaboration between the Universidad Católica and scientific societies such as SEMED is very important. The congress encompasses a vast spectrum that demonstrates the multidisciplinary nature of sports medicine, which is clearly demonstrated by the wide variety of scientific offerings available".

Estrella Núñez, vice-rector of Research of UCAM, who participated in the inauguration of the congress, mentioned the trajectory of the Universidad Católica in its efforts to work in research lines related to health, sports and nutrition; an effort that will now be boosted by "the launch of the UCAM HiTech, which will allow us to generate a meeting point between researchers from different areas, professionals and entrepreneurs, to promote entrepreneurship based on knowledge and, of course, in the area of sports".
