Specialists in modern languages analyse UCAM´s model of language learning
UCAM hosts the Second International Congress for Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies in Modern Languages.
This symposium, organized by the Language Department, is aimed at teaching and research personnel working in Modern Languages, and intends to provide a platform for exchanging research work and theses in this academic field. This second edition of the Congress focuses mostly on the context of learning and teaching of modern languages in all spheres.
During the course of this symposium there will be several conferences and seminars taking place in the Main Hall of the Jeronimos Monastery, as well as in lectura romos 1 and 2 of pavilion 5, respectively.
Speakers who will participate in this Congress include names such as James Milton of Swansea University (Wales), Antonio Ballesteros (UNED) and Carlos Periñán-Pascual from the University of Valencia (UPV).
New degree in Modern Languages
In this context it is worth highlighting that this academic year, for the first time, the UCAM offers a degree in Modern Languages. Thomas Schmidt, course director, stated that “Our main objective is to provide students with an optimal handling of two foreign languages (English & German or English & French), and a rich knowledge of the cultural, economic and historic backgrounds of the countries where these langauges are spoken. Thus students leave university better equipped to enter the labour market.” This course is now accepting applications following its accreditation by the ANECA. Students will be able to choose two specializations or schedules: Language & Intercultural Mediation, and Learning & Teaching of Foreign Languages.
