‘Citizens facing the pandemic, the educative community and health is the title of the 5th International Meeting on Community Health Research, known as INVESCOM 2020, in which the researchers concluded that “facing the stigma against young people, who are seen as dangerous because of their habits and lack of social discipline, we have overlooked the values of solidarity that led to solutions in which the youngest were the protagonists, during the toughest phases of the lockdown. For this reason, we propose a more creative approach that sees young people not as a problem but rather as part of the solution”.

Furthermore, they describe the university as “a privileged place to promote values and teaching innovations in clinical simulations adapted to the online context caused by the pandemic, thus allowing the students to act as hothouses of research and voluntary work”.

This event saw the participation of researchers from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Spain, the United States, Colombia, Norway, Peru, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Venezuela and 134 digital presentations, narrations, academic works, video-presentations, posters or oral presentations were presented. The influence of the pandemic on the vaccination programmes was analysed as well by a round table including the Directorate-General of Public Health of the Region of Murcia and the Nursing Association.

There was also a debate on the figure of the school nurse and on how the coordination with the services of Primary Care proved to be the best way for the prevention of cases in social-sanitary centres such as elderly homes. Furthermore, as a conclusion of this scientific reunion, it must be noted that the needs for care of patients require new solutions supported by the close relation based on trust between nurses and citizens, implementing negotiated care plans that can strengthen the ability of self-care, bearing in mind that, with the lockdown, we became aware of the importance of the family residence as a generator of health.
