A researcher of UCAM receives the Applied Science Award

Tomás T. Freitas, researcher of the Research Centre on High Performance Sport (CIARD) of UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia received the Applied Science Award, in the context of the International Sport Forum of Madrid, which was organised by Strength & Conditioning Society (SCS), together with European Sport Nutrition Society (ESNS). The data of his presentation, entitled “Influence of strength and power on the capacity and deficiency in change of direction in elite team sports” were collected during a research stay in Brazil and they are a part of a multi-centre project of CIARD and of the Nucleus of High Performance in Sport of São Paulo (NAR). The sample was composed of rugby players of the Olympic and national team of Brazil and the goal of the study was to identify the physical abilities that characterise more or less efficient players in direction changing manoeuvres.

Directed by Pedro Emilio Alcaraz, the Research Centre on High Performance Sport aims to be a leading research infrastructure, located in the Region of Murcia, but with the vocation of being an international reference centre. Elite athletes such as Mireia Belmonte (swimming), David Cal (canoeing), Nicolás Almagro (tennis), more than 60 Olympic athletes and the teams UCAM Murcia CB (ACB League) and UCAM Murcia CF (Second Division B) have been in it to receive help with their training and improve their sports performance.
