Meet NUTRIALITEC, the ecosystem for the promotion of food innovation

A partnership comprising the Centro Nacional Tecnológico de la Conserva, CTAEX, BCC Innovation, UCAM, oloBion and artica+i, with a budget of one million euros and an execution period of almost two years. The project seeks to detect the challenges of the agri-food industry in order to provide a solution with its R&D capabilities.

NUTRIALITEC is the innovation ecosystem for the promotion of food innovation, coordinated by the Centro Nacional Tecnológico de la Conserva (National Technological Centre for Canned Food) and involving CTAEXBCC Innovation, the Basque Culinary Center's gastronomy technology centre, the Universidad Católica de Murcia (UCAM)oloBion and artica+i.

The objective is to enhance the value of the large amount of by-products currently generated in agro-industrial activities, in order to obtain bioactive and healthy ingredients within the framework of a sustainable food model.

All of this is framed within a shift towards a dietary pattern that increases the consumption of plant-based foods, which would provide environmental and health benefits. Nutrialitec works to promote technological development and innovation in sustainable and omics extractive technologies at the service of functional nutrition, as well as the strengthening and expansion of the ecosystem. Visit their website nutrialitec.es and do not hesitate to contact them.

The actions of the Nutrialitec ecosystem are aimed at companies and business associations in the agri-food sector, analysis and characterisation companies related to this sector, companies in the pharmaceutical, medical and cosmetic sectors interested in the use of bioingredients, research centres, technology centres and universities developing technology in these areas, as well as all the administrations involved.

FIAB and PTF4LS are involved in this project to facilitate technology transfer. Likewise, the regional administration, through INFO, will also collaborate to reinforce the impact on the ecosystem created in the regional agri-food sector.

Objectives and expected results

The main objective of the project is to enhance the value of technologies applicable to food and health, both in the industrial and gastronomic fields, focusing on different sectors of the population and always strengthening the functionality of new ingredients and their effects on health. Furthermore, the project also aims to consolidate R&D&I synergies between the different agents in the ecosystem, maximising access to different services and technologies by means of multidisciplinary teams.

With the implementation of the project activities, important developments will be achieved in the value chain of functional bioingredients, such as extraction protocols, chemical and functional characterisation by omic techniques, conveyance of bioingredients in food matrices and nutritional supplements, optimisation of their release in the digestive tract, toxicity control and analysis of their efficacy at both nutritional and therapeutic levels.

Resources: Pilot plants, gastronomic laboratories and state-of-the-art analytical equipment.
NUTRIALITEC has sufficient technical and human resources to undertake the collaborative technological developments that can be promoted within the ecosystem through fundable projects, in-house developments or contractual R&D.
NUTRIALITEC (ECO-20241004), will receive more than 975,000€ of funding from CDTI Innovation, with the support of the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. This is a 21-month project and will have a Strategic Agenda driven by its 6 working groups, which will be the basis for the dynamisation of innovation activities aimed at achieving a safe, healthy and sustainable food chain.
