‘Medea' illuminates the 25th anniversary of UCAM
The Antonio Márquez Company and the UCAM Symphony Orchestra successfully staged this performance, a masterpiece of flamenco ballet
A cast of twenty-three dancers from the Antonio Márquez Company and more than fifty musicians from the Symphonic Orchestra of the Universidad Católica de Murcia, performed Medea to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the founding of UCAM, on Thursday in the Víctor Villegas Auditorium.
‘Medea' is the famous piece by Manolo Sanlúcar, composer and guitarist from Cádiz, with José Granero as choreographer and Miguel Narros as playwright. Antonio Márquez starred in the role of Jasón, with the participation of Helena Martín as the magician Medea and the Murcian María Valverde as the wet nurse; the UCAM Symphony Orchestra was conducted by Salvador Pérez.
The audience was captivated by this masterpiece of flamenco ballet, which Márquez himself has defined as "the most iconic piece of Spanish dance in the last 50 years".
El Amor Brujo
The UCAM Symphony Orchestra also performed masterpieces from the Spanish repertoire such as 'Amor Brujo' by Manuel de Falla, with the cantaora (flamenco singer) Joana Jiménez in the role of 'Candelas'.
