Lydia Valentín, runner-up in the Weightlifting World Championship
The athlete of the UCAM was fifth in snatch and third in clean and jerk, thus obtaining the second position in the Olympic overall with 246 kg.
The World Weightlifting Championship, which took place in Pattaya (Thailand), has put Lydia Valentín to the test less than a year before the Olympic Games of Tokyo, and it can be said that the weightlifting athlete from León has passed the test with a good mark. Although she could not defend her gold medal due to a small mistake in the snatch and to an awesome performance of the Colombian athlete, Leidy Solís, in clean and jerk, the athlete from León has given a great impression.
Despite obtaining the fifth position in snatch, the differences between the two competitors were small and Lydia Valentín offered a greater regularity in the two performances, getting a better result in clean and jerk and obtaining the bronze medal. In the Olympic total, with 246 kg, she held the gold medal in her hand, but the Colombian athlete Leidy Solís surprised her by performing a last lift of 142 kg, thus reaching a total of 247 kg and taking away the triumph from Lydia. In spite of that, with the silver medal in the Olympic overall and the bronze medal in clean and jerk, the athlete of the UCAM keeps increasing a legendary list of triumphs and she is set to become a candidate for her fourth Olympic medal in Tokyo 2020.
