Laura Gil and Juan Francisco Abellán obtain the boarding pass to Tokyo

The player and the doctor of the Spanish National Basketball Team add the Murcian and UCAM touch to the national team

Laura Gil and Juan Francisco Abellán, both from Murcia and linked to UCAM, have managed to guarantee their participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with the victory of the Spanish Women’s Basketball Team over Great Britain (69-79). 


The player from Santo Ángel studies the Online Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia. She has 16 international medals and is already the most successful athlete in the history of the national basketball team, including the men’s team too. Juan Francisco is also a teacher in the Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine at UCAM. He has been the doctor for the women’s national team since last summer and the team won the gold medal in his début at the Eurobasket. He specialises in sports traumatology and was also a doctor at UCAM Murcia CF during the 2012-2013 season.


Both Laura and Juan Francisco are well known for their career and prestigious work in regional sport and proof of this is the fact that they were awarded in the last Sports Gala of the Region of Murcia where they were awarded the prize for Best Individual Athlete of the Year and a Special Mention, respectively.
