The fight against cybercrime, one of the National Police Force's main lines of action
Today UCAM hosts an educational and informative conference to mark the bicentenary of the National Police Force
The National Police Force celebrates two hundred years of service to the citizens in 2024, an anniversary that UCAM celebrates with a conference, organised by its Degree in Criminology, in which members of this national security corps address various issues, such as the application of new technologies to fight cybercrime, the defence of minors, the evolution of the GEOS (Special Group of Operations) and the use of drones.
In this sense, Ignacio del Olmo, senior chief of the National Police Force in the Region of Murcia, stressed during the inauguration of the event, that ‘these conferences delve into new methods and procedures for the use of technology, as well as techniques in criminalistics and investigation to deal with such sensitive issues as violence against women and minors’.
Together with Del Olmo, María Dolores García, UCAM president, inaugurated the event, highlighting that ‘I am proud to be holding this conference; for us it is one full of emotion, relevance and gratitude for this Corps and the work it carries out’.
In the same vein, Mariola Guevara, Government delegate in the Region of Murcia, ‘thanked UCAM and its president for having welcomed them and for giving the National Police Force this opportunity to share their experience and knowledge with the students’. José María Caballero, Vice-Dean of the UCAM Degree in Criminology, highlighted the relevance of this training for his students as ‘future police officers will also have to face new criminal typologies, such as cybercrime, which is appearing from various perspectives’.
In the different round tables, the experts explained how new technologies have given rise to types of crime that did not previously occur. An example being sexual crimes such as extortion or revealing secrets by sending intimate images to other people. This is one of the new challenges faced by members of the police force and which they have reflected on at this conference.
The activity will conclude this afternoon with the conference 'Drones, new developments in aerial police mediums', given by Inspector Javier Corral, head of the Drones Group, and the round table 'Evolution of the GEOs in the National Police Force', with the participation of Germán Cabaco, head of the Local Police Station of Alcantarilla; Inspector Álvaro Dorado and Sub-inspector Francisco Álvarez.
