UCAM and ACB present a Master in sport law and management

The Catholic University of Murcia and the “Asociación de Clubes de Baloncesto” (the national Basketball Clubs Association, top three European national league) will launch in February their educational agreement with an international Master in the field of law and management

UCAM and ACB officially presented today a collaboration agreement in the field of education and research whose first activity will be the International Master in Sport Law, Management and Administration of Basketball, starting in February 2016.


During the presentation, José Luis Mendoza, UCAM’s president; and Francisco Roca, ACB’s president, proceeded to the ceremonial signing of this Agreement that will promote the collaboration of both entities in the fields of research and academic formation related to sports 


José Luis Mendoza, UCAM’s president, recognized that “we are very proud to join the ACB. After the different agreements and the excellent relations we have with other entities such as COE or LFP, this new relation brings to light the great support the Catholic University is giving to the sport world and its professionals”.


For his part, Francisco Roca valued that this new project, as it will enable “transferring the experience acquired by the ACB throughout its 30 years of life on the first line of professional sport to people willing to focus their career on this sector. To us, this is a guarantee to develop this project with the technical and educational facilities of UCAM, member of ACB and internationally recognized as the University of Sports”.


The International Master in Sport law, Management and Administration of Basketball stands out by counting with top-level teachers, among which can be found teachers of the Catholic University of Murcia, ACB professionals, international entities such as FIBA or Euroleague, as well as some of the most relevant personalities of sport law in Spain. 


The study plan of this program, imparted online, is focused on law and administrative fields related to basketball and professional sports, both at national and international levels, and is complemented by a large module of sport management covering fields such as taxation, marketing, event planning, facilities development or new technologies.


The students will have the opportunity to do their practices in organizations such as the ACB, in clubs of the Association, at UCAM, or in the sports law department at Crowe Horwarth.


Moreover, the program will count with tuition fees discounts for the diverse actors of basketball (players, coaches, referees and various professionals). 


Finally, the “James Naishmith” grant also has been presented: every year, one actor of the basketball world will be offered to complete these studies for free. The objective is to facilitate the transition and the integration of athletes into the labour world.


 


The chair of basketball is born












As a result of the agreement with ACB, the first chair of basketball of the world has been created at UCAM.


Its task will be to promote the field of research related to basketball, promoting publications and formation. It will also give nominations proposition for Honoris Causa.












The chairman will be Francisco Roca, supported by professors of the Catholic University of Murcia.
