The Spanish Olympic delegation, with 15 Murcians, is on its way to Tokyo

During an online meeting, the presidents of the Region, Fernando López Miras, and the president of UCAM, José Luis Mendoza, thanked them for their effort and wished them good luck in the Games, which will start on July 23. UCAM Universidad Católica de Murcia will be the university with the highest number of athletes in Tokyo in the world, with the Spanish delegation composed of 60 Olympic and 13 Paralympic athletes linked to this institution, aside from two trainers and two doctors.

The president of UCAM, José Luis Mendoza, accompanied by the Sports Director of the University, Pablo Rosique, held an online meeting with the Murcian group that will participate in the Olympic Games of Tokyo.

The Olympic Games, the greatest event in the world, will begin at the end of the current month, July, in Tokyo, five years after the ones held in Rio. The Spanish delegation, which will depart this week from Madrid, includes 15 Murcians: 7 Olympic athletes, 3 Paralympic athletes and 5 staff members, 10 of which are linked to UCAM. This Monday, the presidents of the Region and of this university, Fernando López Miras and José Luis Mendoza, thanked them all and wished them good luck for the competition during an event held online, since these days the majority of them are competing or finishing their training in different areas of the

world.

Both presidents showed their admiration for the particularly complex challenge that they had to overcome in order to obtain their call, congratulating them. Likewise, they told them that, most certainly, they will be able to perceive in Tokyo, while competing, the warmth of the entire Region of Murcia.

Laura Gil, Miguel Ángel López, María Xiao, Silvia Erdelyi, Sonia Ruiz, Vicki Alonso, José Antonio Carillo, Juan Francisco Abellán, Alberto Martínez, Ana Sánchez del Campo, Kike Siscar and Luis Miguel Castillo attended the ceremony. Alejandro Valverde and Rafa Mir participated through video messages.

UCAM, the university with the highest number of athletes competing in the Games in the whole world: 73

Once again, UCAM Universidad Católica de Murcia will be the university with more athletes in the Games in the world, with the Spanish delegation composed of 60 Olympic and 13 Paralympic athletes linked to this institution, to whom we must add two trainers and two doctors. Five years ago, the project of UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia, born from its alliance with the Spanish Olympic Committee, was internationally confirmed in the Olympic Games of Rio, in which 60 of its athletes participated. They won 24 medals (15 Olympic ones and 9 Paralympic ones) and 12 diplomas (9 Olympic ones and 3 Paralympic ones). UCAM was the second university in the world who obtained the highest number of Olympic medals in Rio, second only to Stanford, which won 27.
