The family and the UCAM academic community would like to express their gratitude for all the expressions of affection received during these days, since his passing last Wednesday.

The Holy Mass was presided over by Monsignor José Manuel Lorca Planes, Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena; and concelebrated by the Archbishops Emeritus of Madrid and Valencia, Cardinals Antonio María Rocuo Varela and Antonio Cañizares, the representative of the Apostolic Nunciature, Daniele Liessi, the Bishop of Jaén, Monsignor Sebastián Chico; the Coadjutor Archbishop of Granada, Monsignor José María Gil Tamayo; the Archbishops Emeritus of Orihuela-Alicante and Zaragoza, Monsignors Jesús Murgui and Manuel Ureña; and the bishop of Callao (Peru) until 2020, José Luis del Palacio, as well as vicars and a large number of priests.

Monsignor Lorca Planes stressed in his preachment that José Luis Mendoza ‘has left us with a huge testimony of faith, a precious achievement and very visible traces of his work which will always lead us to the will of God’ and emphasised that the founder of UCAM was ‘a faithful, honourable and honest man’.

The representative of the Apostolic Nunciature read a message of condolence to the family and the entire academic community from the nuncio of His Holiness Pope Francis in Spain, Bernardito Cleopás, showing his union with them in prayer.

Before concluding the Eucharist, the UCAM president's wife, María Dolores García, remembered him as a man who gave his life to the Catholic Church and who kept his strength in faith at all times. She also stated that ‘every 18th January (date of his passing) will be a day of celebration for all of us’.
