The lecturer in Ocular Surgery, Joaquín Barraquer, will be invested as Doctor Honoris Causa by UCAM

Barraquer will focus his investiture speech on “Cataract Surgery. A story I lived”. The laudation/tribute will be in charge of Jerónimo Lajara, also ophthalmologist and vice dean of the Medicine Bachelor at UCAM


 On Friday 18th of September from 11:30, the Temple of the Monasterio of Los Jeronimos will receive the investiture ceremony as Doctor Honoris Causa of Joaquín Barraquer, prestigious ophthalmologist and eye surgeon, and director-surgeon of the Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre (Barcelona), by the Catholic University San Antonio of Murcia. The university professor will focus his investiture speech on “The cataract surgery: A story I lived”. The laudation will be in charge of Jerónimo Lajara, also ophthalmologist and vice dean of the Medicine Bachelor at UCAM.


Barraquer, professional internationally acknowledged, mainly focuses his clinical work on four fields: cornea transplants, and cataract, glaucoma and myopia surgeries. He also played an important role in teaching, training numerous specialists in the field.


This nomination joins the other Doctors Honoris Causa in the field of health:  Juan Jiménez Collado, academician of the Real Academia Nacional de Medicina; Lars Peterson, orthopaedic lecturer at the Gothenburg University (Sweden); Juan Carlos Izpisua, researcher in the Gene Expression at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies of La Jolla (California, United States); Antonio López de Silanes, main driver of the Mexican Health Foundation (Funsalud); Rene Verdonk, professor emeritus and former director of the Orthopaedics and Traumatology Department at the State University of Ghent (Belgium); Stephen P. Abelow, director of the Tahoe Sport Traumatology Clinic (Nevada, USA), and  doctor Pedro Guillén, extraordinary lecturer in Sport Traumatology and dean of honour of the Bachelor in Medicine of UCAM
