“European Sport Leadership Program”: a project to improve the employment rate of university students

UCAM welcomed the first meeting with University partners from Italy, Greece, Turkey and Malta to design a training program, co-financed by the European Union, to help improve employability through sport-based leadership.

UCAM hosted the first meeting of the “European Sport Leadership Program”'. During the next thirty months, the Catholic University of Murcia will carry out the tasks of management and coordination of this project, its quality assurance, as well as disclosure of the results.


The Dean of the UCAM Faculty of Sport, Antonio Sánchez Pato, and members of the Research Group ‘Areté: Educación Física, Deporte y Rendimiento', received in the Campus of Los Jerónimos the partners of this project: the universities of Panepistimio Thessalias (Greece), Universita degli Studi di Roma Foro Italico (Italy), Pamukkale Üniversitesi (Turkey) and Universita ta Malta (Malta).


This project is co-financed by the European Union, to promote employability through sport. Antonio Sánchez Pato stressed that it is intended to implement a sports-based leadership program to encourage sport practice and put in contact employers and students: "This project represents a new challenge for UCAM that not only focuses attention on the elite athlete but also will design a model to generate employability for all university students ".


Pablo Cano, Director of the UCAM International Projects Office, has highlighted good practices of the Faculty of Sport to create synergies and to transfer to other European universities different models of teaching that have already been applied: "The European Union has valued positively the work of UCAM in the field of sports research and it has granted two major projects to its Faculty of Sports to transfer to other Universities in Europe the UCAM’s educational approach and values".
